Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
On October 4, the 2025 season of Sabados Dominicanos (Dominican Saturdays) came to an end. This initiative, organized by Taino Bay and Fundacion Genera ITM, opens its doors to the Puerto Plata community during the cruise low season so they can enjoy the port’s facilities.

From May to October, one Saturday each month, families from Puerto Plata had access to the lazy river, the beach, rest areas, and the port’s restaurant. This year, 4,636 people participated and enjoyed the experience, strengthening the port’s role as a space for community gathering, recreation, and learning.

Environmental Awareness Saturdays
In addition to activities for enjoyment and socializing, the community actively participated in awareness initiatives linked to the Comunidades Circulares campaign, including:
- La Lotería Circular, a family game designed to reinforce responsible waste-management practices.
- An exhibition of recycled costumes from Comunidades Circulares, promoting the reduction of single-use plastics and strengthening the local environmental culture.
These actions combine recreation with environmental education, helping to build more informed communities committed to protecting their coastal environment.

A Space Created By and For the Community
Sabados Dominicanos, was created with the goal of opening the port to the local community and strengthening social bonds through shared experiences. Each event brought together children, youth, adults, vendors, guilds, and community organizations in a festive and safe atmosphere inside the port facilities.

A Message of Gratitude
The 2025 season closes with deep gratitude to everyone who participated and who, Saturday after Saturday, made this space their own. The growth of the Sabados Dominicanos program has been possible thanks to the participation of the community, collaborators, and allied organizations.

Next Edition
Taino Bay confirms that Sabados Dominicanos will return next year, with new cultural, recreational, and environmental awareness activities aimed at continuing to strengthen the relationship between the community and its surroundings.
See you next year!
In 2026, we will have new opportunities to gather, enjoy, and build new memories together.
